Director of Sports Medicine (Athletic Trainer)
Mullen High School is seeking to hire an energetic committed individual to serve as the Director of Sports Medicine. This is a full-time, at- will opening for the 2026-2027 School Year.
Mullen High School is a Lasallian, Catholic, and college preparatory school conducted in the tradition of the Christian Brothers to give a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor, as established in our five Lasallian Core Principles. The Department of Athletics at Mullen High School has an opening for a Director of Sports Medicine.
This is a full-time, at- will position for the 2026-2027 school year.
Compensation is $60,000 to $85,000 Mullen reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range

Position Overview
The Director of Sports Medicine is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of all Mullen High School student athletes. The Director provides leadership and oversight for the school’s sports medicine program while also serving as the primary athletic trainer responsible for the daily evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
This position requires a strong on campus presence and an individual who values building trusted relationships with student athletes, parents, coaches, and school staff. The Director of Sports Medicine prioritizes relationship based care within the Lasallian mission of Mullen High School and demonstrates a commitment to supporting the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of adolescent student athletes. The Director works collaboratively with the Assistant Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, coaches, physicians, and school personnel to provide high quality medical care and ensure that all student athletes are safely cleared for participation in athletics.

Primary Athletic Training Responsibilities
The Director of Sports Medicine serves as the primary athletic trainer for Mullen High School and provides daily medical care for student athletes.
Responsibilities include:
● Providing injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for student athletes
● Providing athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, and athletic events as assigned
● Maintaining a visible and supportive presence for student athletes during half of the school day, practices, and competitions
● Developing and implementing injury prevention strategies in collaboration with coaches and sports performance staff
● Creating a safe and welcoming environment where student athletes feel comfortable reporting injuries and seeking care
● Monitoring and guiding safe return to play decisions in accordance with established medical standards and best practices
Student Centered Care and Communication
The Director of Sports Medicine prioritizes the long term health and safety of student athletes and demonstrates compassionate care when working with adolescents.
Responsibilities include:
● Building positive relationships with student athletes and fostering trust within the athletic community
● Communicating injury evaluations, treatment plans, and return to play decisions clearly with student athletes, parents, and coaches
● Explaining medical information in a way that is easily understood by families and non medical audiences
● Maintaining timely and professional communication with parents regarding injuries and recovery progress
● Supporting student athletes emotionally during injury recovery and return to play processes
● Serving as a trusted resource for student athletes, parents, and coaches regarding sports medicine concerns
Sports Medicine Program Leadership
The Director of Sports Medicine provides leadership for the school’s sports medicine program while partnering closely with the Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Responsibilities include:
● Supervising, mentoring, and collaborating with the Assistant Athletic Trainer to ensure appropriate medical coverage for athletic programs
● Overseeing the student athlete medical clearance process including pre participation physicals, concussion baseline testing, and required medical documentation
● Partnering with the Assistant Athletic Trainer to ensure all student athletes are medically cleared prior to participation in accordance with school and CHSAA policies
● Maintaining organized and compliant medical records in accordance with state and federal regulations
● Coordinating athletic training coverage schedules for practices and competitions
● Supporting the long term development and improvement of the sports medicine program as resources allow
Collaboration with Coaches and School Personnel
The Director of Sports Medicine works closely with coaches, the Director of Sports Performance, administrators, and school personnel to support the safety and success of student athletes.
Responsibilities include:
● Communicating with coaches regarding injury status, participation limitations, and return to play timelines
● Partnering with counselors and school administrators to support students requiring academic accommodations due to injuries or concussions
● Developing and maintaining relationships with physicians and healthcare providers to support student athlete care and referrals
● Collaborating with the sports performance staff to support injury prevention initiatives
● Providing CPR, AED, and First Aid training for coaches and athletic personnel as required
Student Athlete Safety and Medical Ethics
The Director of Sports Medicine prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of student athletes in all medical decisions.
Responsibilities include:
● Advocating for the health and safety of student athletes in all return to play decisions
● Providing honest and transparent communication regarding injuries and recovery timelines
● Upholding professional medical standards and ethical practices in athletic training
● Maintaining the authority and professional judgment necessary to protect student athlete safety even in high pressure competitive environments
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
● Understanding of and commitment to the Lasallian and Catholic mission of Mullen High School
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with student athletes, parents, coaches, and school personnel
● Ability to clearly communicate medical information to individuals without a medical background
● Strong decision making, organizational, and problem solving skills
● Ability to work collaboratively within a school based athletic department
● Knowledge of adolescent physical, emotional, and developmental needs

Qualifications and Experience
● Master’s Degree from a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program
● Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer
● Licensed to practice Athletic Training in the State of Colorado
● Registered with the Department of Regulatory Agencies
● Minimum of five years experience in high school or collegiate athletic training preferred
● Demonstrated experience working with high school student athletes and families preferred
Additional Information
● This position is a year round, 12 month position that includes summer responsibilities.
● The position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends based on athletic event coverage.
● This position is supervisory in nature and includes oversight of the Assistant Athletic Trainer.
