Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Medical Surgical specialty provides skilled nursing care to patients primarily in the Urology/Nephrology unit within an acute care hospital setting. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, IV therapy, telemetry monitoring, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to manage complex medical and renal cases. The nurse will work day shifts and is expected to have a minimum of two years of medical/surgical nursing experience with strong clinical skills and professional knowledge to ensure high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer medications, including heparin and blood products, and manage IV therapy, including PICC lines and central line blood draws.
• Monitor patients using telemetry and respond to emergency situations using rapid response protocols.
• Manage pre and post hemodialysis care and renal failure patient needs.
• Provide respiratory care including management of chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management.
• Implement isolation precautions and wound care, including wound vac management.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
• Document patient care and clinical observations accurately using Cerner electronic medical records.
• Float to other medical surgical units as needed within scope of practice.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in medical/surgical nursing.
• BLS certification.
• Clinical skills in telemetry monitoring, IV therapy, medication administration, and emergency response.
• Experience with renal and genitourinary patient care including hemodialysis management.
• Proficiency in Cerner electronic health record system.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in MS/Tele or Med/Surg acute care settings.
• Knowledge of wound vac and advanced wound care techniques.
• Familiarity with respiratory care devices such as Emerson/Pleur-evac chest tubes.

Special Considerations:

• No on-call requirement.
• Floating to other medical surgical units within scope of practice is expected.
• Must adhere to isolation precautions and emergency response protocols.
• Parking permit required; no cost for parking.
• Scrub color: any solid color allowed.
• Work setting includes a Level I trauma center and Magnet hospital environment.
• Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without penalty; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts.
• Return to office restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.

Scheduling:

• Day shift: 06:45 AM to 07:15 PM.
• Work every other weekend.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
