Job Summary

AtoZLearningClub is seeking experienced, mission-driven leaders to join our Board of Directors as volunteer Board Members. We are recruiting in four key areas of expertise: Legal, Fundraising/Revenue, Development, and Communications. Board members provide strategic oversight, governance, and leadership to advance our mission as a literacy arts nonprofit. This is an unpaid, volunteer leadership position with a 2-year term commitment (renewable once), requiring attendance at quarterly board meetings, active participation in fundraising, and engagement at organizational events. Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of prior nonprofit board experience and a passion for literacy, the arts, and educational equity.

Board Member Responsibilities

General Responsibilities (All Board Members)

  • Serve a 2-year term, with the option to serve up to two consecutive terms
  • Attend quarterly board meetings, arriving prepared and engaged
  • Attend AtoZLearningClub events, programs, and fundraisers throughout the year
  • Actively participate in fundraising efforts — including personal giving, donor cultivation, and outreach
  • Serve on at least one board committee
  • Act as an ambassador for AtoZLearningClub in the community
  • Uphold fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and obedience
  • Review and approve the annual budget, financial reports, and strategic plan
  • Support and partner with the Executive Director
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the organization’s conflict of interest policy

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who bring proven leadership and governance experience. Ideal candidates will have:

  • 3–5 years of prior nonprofit board service (required)
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of our priority areas: legal, fundraising/revenue, development, or communications, arts, and education
  • A genuine passion for literacy, the arts, and educational equity
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, fiduciary duty, and ethical leadership
  • Willingness to leverage personal and professional networks on behalf of AtoZLearningClub
  • Ability to make a meaningful annual financial contribution at a level personally significant to the member
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
